    Synopsis

Former president George Bush's time in office marked one of the most tumultuous periods in the 20th century. In this audiobook, Bush, along with his national security adviser, Brent Scowcroft, gives a remarkably frank account of those years, providing an inside look at the recent great events that have dramatically changed the political climate of the world, such as the collapse of the Soviet Union, the unification of Germany, and the Gulf War. Bush offers intriguing views on the other world leaders -- Gorbachev, Yeltsin, Mitterand, Kohl, Thatcher -- and on the intricate negotiations among them concerning the global issues of the day. Far from a dry memoir that reiterates a former president's political ideals and proclaims his accomplishments, A World Transformed is a fascinating landmark document of the conduct of American foreign policy. Narrated by the authors and Condoleeza Rice, provost of Stanford University.

The Wall Street Journal - Eugene V. Rostow

Among the finest expositions of modern American foreign policy since the time of Harry Truman. . .An excellent book. . .unique in form. . .[dealing with] potentially explosive crises. Any one of them, if badly managed, could have precipitated a third world war in a nuclear setting.

August 10, 2000: This book is a terrific account of the international relations during the Bush presidency. German Unification, the Gulf War, arms treaties with Russia, and the dismantling of the Soviet Union are discussed. The reader gains an appreciation for the complex politics involved, and for the critical role played by Bush and his team. The book claims to be focused on the decisions and negotiations and thought processes, but it is also an excellent factual account of the events.
