    Synopsis

In The Truth about Muhammad, New York Times bestselling author and Islam expert Robert Spencer offers an honest and telling portrait of the founder of Islam unbounded by fear and political correctness, unflinching, and willing to face the hard facts about Muhammad's life that continue to affect our world today, Spencer details Muhammad's development from a preacher of hellfire and damnation into a political and military leader who expanded his rule by force of arms, promising his warriors luridly physical delights in Paradise if they were killed in his cause. He explains how the Our'an's teaching on warfare against unbelievers developed-with constant war to establish the hegemony of Islamic law as the last stage.

Spencer also gives the truth about Muhammad's convenient "revelations" justifying his own licentiousness; his joy in the brutal murders of his enemies; and above all, his clear marching orders to his followers to convert non-Muslims to Islam - or force them to live as inferiors under islamic rule. Recognizing the true nature of Islam, Spencer argues, is crucial. Every citizen (and policy-maker) who loves freedom should read and ponder The Truth about Muhammad.

November 09, 2008: This book is equating Islam with Terror, and Jihad with War and a Muslim with Violence.
    Indeed this is utterly WRONG.
For instance, JIHAD of a Muslim is to exert efforts, struggle and strive for the better.

    {{The term 'Holy War' was actually introduced by the Crusaders for the control of the `Holy Land' (Jerusalem in particular), for political and reasons of expansionism}}

The term: `Greater JIHAD', while to nowadays' Western ears is equated with `slaughter'; in the Muslim parlance it actually means the struggle against one's soul. (Evil vs. Good.)

Muslim scholars explain (and teach) the meanings of JIHAD in reference to the following distinguished syllables.

Jihad to improve one's learning of science and philosophy to acquire additional knowledge to reason and rationalize one's daily actions and approaches.

Jihad in one's heart and Jihad of one's soul in order to quench the evil in one's mind through adherence to monotheism, (that there is but one God).

Jihad of the tongue, supportive of equanimity and struggle against the use of mean vocabulary, gutter writing, not even to induce someone to convert into one's faith by force or by the allure of money. Nor would one propagate military and political dogmas.

Jihad by means of the hand, meaning to use one's wealth for the good of the needy and the poor and to take care of the elderly parents.

Jihad through peaceful coexistence everywhere in the world.

Jihad by the sword refers to fighting for God's sake.

    Islam condemns war.
Islam means `peace', Allah's peace with us and the peace of each one with one another.
Islam indoctrinates moderation and freedom from excesses.
A true Muslim is one who believes that once divinity of doctrine has been questioned there is no return to perfect faith.
The Prophet, even during his toughest encounters with the infidels never cracked under the uncertainties and emotions, or tormented by indecisiveness whenever a decision was required.

Perhaps the author should have also mentioned that Fatima, the only surviving child of Muhammad, was the wife of his first convert to Islam, Ali, the Prophet's cousin.
It is to be noted that the influence of Aisha, the young and favorite wife of Muhammad, a bitter enemy of Fatima and Ali, secured the election of her father, Abu Bakr as the Caliph of the Muslemeen. To Abu Bakr succeeded Omar bin-Abi Talib and to him Osman bin-Affan.

Asma bint-Marwan and Mary the Copt, were women adulterated by levity to cunning and cleverness. They used their ingratiating smiles and were given almost feline manners that captivated those who knew them. Asma (the Poetess) set herself to please heads of tribes while she inspired the Prophet's distrust at first sight. Each woman, when comes to discussing serious matters, leapt herself in favor by being at once obsequious and entertaining by funny stories and acts of buffoonery. Their misbehavior was indeed their faculty for making enemies with the Prophet who detested their language and sharp tongues.

I am Christian. I have Moslem friends, neighbors and relatives. They deserve all my respects and admiration. They are true Muslims, not Islamists as per the descriptions shown in this book.
    Islam recognizes Christianity.
There is one full Sura in the Quran about Mary (the Mother of Christ) entitled Surat Merriam.

January 16, 2008: The flow of information in this book is very choppy, illogical and rambles on. The problem is for the lay person that doesn't know much about the Quran, it references it much like a biblical work and hastily jumps to conclusions. The author seems to want to do nothing more than BASH Muhammad.
