Christmas 2000: a blissful time when Y2K mania was gleefully recalled as farcical overreaction, and Yankee fans everywhere were still reveling in the aftermath of the Subway Series. On the surface, there's little reason for native New Yorker Jim Carrelli, now a left-coaster, to be so miserable. But he has dragged a lot of baggage into the new millennium, and it's weighing on him as heavily as Jacob Marley's chain. Feeling no pain during an outing to his favorite watering hole, Jim spills his guts, revealing the source of his mounting misanthropy to his neighbor Galen, a loquacious mysterious older gentleman with unusual taste in automobiles and haberdashery. Digging past Jim's selfishness and Long Island parochialism to discover a good heart underneath, Galen makes him an offer of a lifetime. Brimming with nostalgic humor and sharp cultural commentary, 1225 Mistletoe Lane adds a contemporary twist to a hallowed holiday theme and reaffirms the Dickensian notion that we are all just "fellow passengers to the grave."
1225 Mistletoe Lane is an enchanting read... Lenny Castellaneta crafts a fascinating tale...

October 29, 2007: Jim Carrelli was your average guy, early thirties, decent job as a High School English teacher, but he did have an emptiness in his life. There was no wife or girlfriend to come home to, only his elderly landlord Molly who has started taking on symptoms of being not right in the head. He loved this old woman though, each night he would say a prayer for her, what he didn't expect was to be the answer. Galen, Jim's neighbor asked him a question one night while they were out having a drink together. If he could, would he do whatever was possible to save Molly from the accident? Jim barely hesitated answering yes. When Jim awoke from passing out he noticed something was not quite right. It was the year 1963, fifteen years before he was even born. Notes from Galen are left for Jim a couple of times, but then when Nancy Edwards comes into Jim's life, nothing else matters. He has found love, too bad it was in a completely different time zone and he has not been one hundred percent truthful to the woman he proposes to marry. Only that will never happen, Molly's guardian angel Galen says that Jim must return to his time without Nancy. But if it is possible to save Molly from the accident, what will happen when Jim returns to present day? Was this all a drunken dream and when he wakes, everything will be the same...Molly outside watering the grass making a mud pit? So close to love too bad it may be lost..... Lenny Castellaneta pens a lovely Christmas time novella that is sure to get you in the Holiday Spirit. The story line is well written and very much enjoyable. 1225 Mistletoe Lane, started out slow for me because I couldn't see the significance of each character until Jim is teleported back in time. But once I met the younger versions of his friends as they helped him expose Richard's evilness toward children, I fell in love with this book. As I reflect and write this review, I don't see anything wrong with this being classified as a young adult novel as well. I think this is just the story to read to anyone that will listen or even quitely to yourself while curling up with an old quilt and cup of hot chocolate. Lenny Castellaneta shows the reader, there is always someone to watch over you. 5 Hearts
