      Synopsis

Practical self-help for artists who want to free their creativity. Art from Intuition offers artists everywhere a unique system for freeing their own creative intuition, the sixth sense that directs an artist’s drive and work. By letting go of the self-criticism, doubt, and insecurity that discourage artmaking, artists will be able to soar to new heights of creativity. More than 50 practical exercises take the reader from the most basic intuitive art to more sophisticated techniques. Each exercise, supported by step-by-step instructions, is accessible to artists at every level, and the exercises can be done in any order. After each chapter, readers are encouraged to follow up by evaluating their drawings or paintings to see how they reflect their own personal goals. Works of art by students and contemporary artists exemplify how exciting and how productive a freer, more intuitive approach to making art can be.

November 30, 2009: I highly recommend this book to all artists. A professional artist should also find this book a good resource. This is the kind of book you can look at over again as you continue to make art. This book will get well used in your private library. It will spark new ideas.

I have come across a number of good artists in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts. They do not want to leave their comfort zone. This is unfortunate. Who knows what they would create if they tried something out of their comfort zone.

Personally, I enjoy leaving my comfort zone. But this book still sparks ideas I expect to explore. If you can't buy this book go to your library to read it. If you are really serious about art then this book should be read.

December 16, 2008: THIS IS MY AMAZING STORY. AFTER READING ONLY SEVERAL PARTS OF THE BOOK THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME, I THOUGHT THAT THE MAIN POINT OF IT WAS - (LET GO OF YOUR INHIBITIONS, AND JUST DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING CREATIVE, JUST JUMP IN TO IT). SO, WHILE I WAS ON A VACATION AT A SMALL CLIFFSIDE RESORT ON MY PATIO, I SAID TO MYSELF, OKAY I'LL TRY DOING JUST THAT. I JUST STARTED PICKING UP DIFFERENT SHAPED STONES IN THE 1 TO 5 POUND RANGE, AND BEGAN BALANCING A SMALLER STONE ON TOP OF A SECOND LARGER ONE TO FORM ABOUT SEVEN DIFFERENT SCULPTURAL SHAPES OF WHAT I THOUGHT WAS DIFFERENT BIRDS FACING WHERE THE SUN WAS GOING TO SET, SO IT LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE SUNNING THEMSELVES SITTING ON TOP OF TWO MUCH LARGER FLAT ROCKS ON MY PATIO AREA(TO BAD I CAN'T ADD A PICTURE HERE OF THEM), THEY LOOKED TERRIFIC WHEN THE SUN WENT DOWN, GIVING THEM NICE LONG SHADOWS. I REALLY ENJOYED THE WHOLE PROCESS, AND VIEWING THE FINAL SCENE FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES. NOW, THE AMAZING PART OF THE STORY. I HAPPEN TO RETURN 3 MONTHS LATER TO THE SAME RESORT ROOM, AND RAISED THE ROOM'S BLINDS NOT EXPECTING TO SEE ANY SCULPTURE STILL STANDING OUTSIDE THE WINDOW, AND TO MY ABSOLUTE SURPRISE WERE NEW GREAT LOOKING SAME SIZE STONE SCULPTURES EVERYWHERE, AS FAR AS I COULD SEE IN FRONT TO THE CLIFF, AND TO THE SIDES. I WENT TO ASK THE MANAGER OF THE RESORT - WHO DID THESE? HE SAID, ?OH, SOMEONE STARTED IT ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, AND NOW A LOT OF GUESTS BUILD THEM NOW, IT'S ALWAYS CHANGING, THEY ARE GREAT AREN?T THEY?. FOR MYSELF, I HOPE IT KEEPS GOING ON AND ON, BECAUSE I KNOW NO MATTER WHAT, THEY ALL ENJOYED THE PROCESS OF BEING CREATIVE, AS MUCH I DID. GET THE BOOK FOR YOURSELF OR FOR SOMEONE AND, MAYBE YOU WILL ALSO LEARN HOW TO 'LET GO OF YOUR INHIBITIONS', AND JUST DO IT, AS I LEARNED HOW TO. IT?S MORE FUN TO BE CREATIVE THAN I THOUGHT. DUANE
