      Biography

      Julian Pleasants is professor of history at the University of Florida and has directed the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program since 1996. He is the author of several books, including Frank Porter Graham and the 1950 Senate Race in North Carolina; Buncombe Bob: The Life and Times of Robert R. Reynolds; Orange Journalism: Voices from Florida Newspapers (UPF); and Hanging Chads: The Inside Story of the 2000 Presidential Recount in Florida. Pleasants has taught more than 11,000 students and won more than a dozen teaching awards in his thirty-seven years at the university, including Teacher of the Year in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1989.
