Catty almost has her hands on the Scroll and its power to destroy the Atrox, but time is running out. Anyone who sets foot near the cursed parchment will die, and it's about to go on display at the local art museum. Before Catty can steal it, the Scroll is hand delivered to her by a surprising messenger. . . but this gift has strings. In return she must travel to the dark world of Nefandus to finally meet her father, a member of the Atrox's inner circle. There, he awaits her with a tempting proposal. Will Catty succumb to her dark heritage?
Catty draws close to the Scroll's secrets that will allow her to destroy the evil Atrox, but she fears the aftermath.
The five Daughters of the Moon are off on their eleventh adventure in The Prophecy, attempting to recover a scroll that threatens to reveal their magic identities. The bulk of the action centers on Catty, who is the scroll's sole heir by virtue of a prophecy that only the child of a fallen goddess and an evil spirit will be immune to its curse. The search leads Catty to Nefandus, a parallel universe where she encounters her malevolent father. He uses the opportunity to try to convince Catty that she should accept the evil that is her birthright, and with the help of the scroll, join him as the new ruler of the dark side. Good ultimately prevails over evil but not without a life-and-death decision by Catty. Adults might dismiss some maudlin romantic passages, but such descriptive amorous scenes will surely appeal to the amorous imaginations of teens. Readers will understand the plot even if not familiar with the rest of the series, although Ewing sometimes refers without explanation to a few characters from earlier volumes. These fast-paced, spirited books are sure to be a satisfying read for fans and newcomers alike with their combinations of adventure, suspense, and supernatural foreboding.
