    Synopsis

It’s Alison’s wedding and she and her groom, Luca, have just exchanged vows and are preparing to cap off their perfect day at the reception. But before the champagne even hits the crystal stemware, Luca’s first wife storms in and snatches back her children in front of the horrified guests. When the fuss has died down, Alison finds an ally in Fiona, who confides that a few women she knows have recently started something called the Second Wives Club—a group of female friends who get together to bitch and gossip about the drama that inevitably unfolds when you marry someone else’s husband.

The club’s founding members include Julia, a stunning self-proclaimed trophy wife whose husband insists on remaining uncomfortably close to his former spouse; Susan, whose live-in boyfriend is the classic widower who can’t let go of his beloved ex’s memory; and, of course, Fiona, whose cross to bear is the teenage stepson from hell and an ex who’s bent on sabotaging her relationship. Fortunately, the Club gives them a place to vent, and together they contend with malicious rumors, scheming divorce lawyers, and ex-wives intent on revenge—until they decide that it’s time to stop settling for second best . . . and then the fun really begins.

Told with Moore’s signature wit, wisdom, and sass, The Second Wives Club proves that second wives can be every bit as winning as the girl next door—and offers a dishy, unputdownable look at the modern marital love triangle.

    Library Journal

In the beginning, there was Olivia Goldsmith's The First Wives Club, a sympathetic look at former spouses. Now, this worthy successor takes up the cause of the "other women" and the problems created for them by those very first wives. Alison has the wedding of her dreams-until first wife Sophia barges in and leaves with the children. Fiona has to deal with a rebellious teenage stepson and his mother, who uses the boy as a pawn. Susan is constantly reminded that she can never live up to her husband's deceased first wife. And Julia's husband spends more time with his ex than with her. Alone, these women feel helpless and hopeless. Together, they form the Second Wives Club, a group that knows perfectly blended families are a myth and revenge is a dish best served cold-and often. Moore (Love @ First Site) delivers humor with great panache, seasoning it with a delicious dash of poignancy. This wonderful friendship book joins the ranks of such odes to female empowerment and camaraderie as Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez's The Dirty Girls Social Club and Haywood Smith's The Red Hat Club. This Really Does Happen!by Cecile

March 23, 2009: A great book! I think a lot of second wives can identify with at least some of the plot. But it is not necessary that you be a "second wife" to enjoy this tale. The characters seem very true to life. It is a great book for a time you want a "lighter" read...not too complicated, yet keeps your interest. A good book for a rainy day, or a nice "beach read" as you sit and unwind.

Like it!!! Much better than Love @ first siteby Anonymous

August 17, 2006: I love Jane Moore books. I loved Ex Files and Fourplay. Love @ First site was a disappointment, but this book is as good as the first two.
