    Synopsis

In one of the most unique memoirs of addiction ever published, Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx shares mesmerizing diary entries from the year he spiraled out of control in a haze of heroin and cocaine, presented alongside riveting commentary from people who were there at the time, and from Nikki himself.

When Mötley Crüe was at the height of its fame, there wasn't any drug Nikki Sixx wouldn't do. He spent days — sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers — in a coke and heroin-fueled daze. The highs were high, and Nikki's journal entries reveal some euphoria and joy. But the lows were lower, often ending with Nikki in his closet, surrounded by drug paraphernalia and wrapped in paranoid delusions.

Here, Nikki shares those diary entries — some poetic, some scatterbrained, some bizarre — and reflects on that time. Joining him are Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Slash, Rick Nielsen, Bob Rock, and a host of ex-managers, ex-lovers, and more.

Brutally honest, utterly riveting, and shockingly moving, The Heroin Diaries follows Nikki during the year he plunged to rock bottom — and his courageous decision to pick himself up and start living again.

November 24, 2009: The book itself was surprisingly well written. Nikki Sixx did a tremendous job at telling his story. His background as a rock star allowed him to be truthful and blunt throughout the novel. He did not hold back when telling his experiences. It was full out and hard core. The way he described his addiction was so heart wrenching you just want to take him up out of the pages and tell him it is okay. The little Mexican men that tried to get into his Haven at first was strange but after a while, it kind of made me laugh. I thought of it as this might be a way Nikki's body was trying to get him to stop, to scare the pants off him. The lost lyrics and poems were really interesting too. He even placed them in sections of the novel that magnified their deepness. Nikki's life was a tumult of good and bad, I mean the man died three times. However, because of his loving band mates never giving up, he made it through. His book really makes you think. Drug addicts could get a lot out of this book. To see that even the rich and famous rock stars have trouble staying coherent and well when on drugs will help many overcome their own drug problems.

October 10, 2009: This is one of the best books I have ever read!!!!!!!! I have been reading since I was 4 years old, and I have read many books, but this book is RIVETING and HEART WRENCHING! Nikki Sixx truly bares his soul in this literary genius.

He reveals things that the average person would find in their nightmares, and these images were an everyday part of Nikki's life.

Nikki Sixx deserves a standing ovation for the bravery and courage it took to publish his most personal exxperiences. He really gives the reader an emotional ride through his heroin addiction.

If I could meet one of the bravest people alive, it would definitely be Nikki Sixx.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a raw, honest, sometimes scary account of addiction. He is also incredibly funny and helps the reader understand what was happening then by adding conversation through a now sober mind.

Nikki, you are truly an honorable man.
