    Synopsis

A groundbreaking program that teaches you how to run faster and farther with less effort, and prevent and heal injuries, for runners of any age or fitness level.

In ChiRunning, Danny and Katherine Dreyer, well-known walking and running coaches, provide powerful insight that transforms running from a high-injury sport to a body-friendly, injury-free fitness phenomenon. ChiRunning employs the deep power reserves in the core muscles, an approach found in disciplines such as yoga, Pilates, and T'ai Chi.

ChiRunning enables you to develop a personalized exercise program by blending running with the powerful mind-body principles of T'ai Chi:

    1. Get aligned. Develop great posture and reduce your potential for injury while running, and make knee pain and shin splints a thing of the past.

    2. Engage your core. Shift the workload from your leg muscles to your core muscles, for efficiency and speed.

    3. Add relaxation to your running. Learn to focus your mind and relax your body to increase speed and distance.

    4. Make it a Mindful Practice. Maintain high performance and make running a mindful, enjoyable life-long practice.

    5. It's easy to learn. Transform your running with the 10-step ChiRunning training program.

Don't Give Up Running Yetby Anonymous

November 01, 2009: For anyone who has enjoyed jogging over the years, but is now plagued with joint issues, this book could be the answer. Persistent knee injuries had prevented me from enjoying even short runs. After several weeks of implementing strategies from the book, I'm back up to 30 minutes, 3 times a week - and I feel great. I think what's important to remember about this book (or any self-help book, for that matter) is to not feel obliged to incorporate all aspects of the method. What I've used has definitely helped me and I'd recommend it to anyone who feels that running is no longer a work-out option.

July 25, 2009: I've been doing tai chi for over 12 years and just started jogging around the park for exercise when I picked up this book. I was looking for something to guide me so I would run "properly" and not get hurt being that I have a small history of a small knee issue. I'm really glad I came upon THIS book instead of some other one, and was even a bit shocked to find the two things related, and VERY happy about it.

From the tai chi side of things, it's exactly in line with everything I've ever been taught and taught to others. That right there was enough for me to think "wow, maybe I can actually like running!"

I love the book in every way, but I do have to admit I felt a little "left out" when reading it. It's from the perspective of someone who's been running a long time, and is pretty much aimed at people who have been running a long time and already have a different way of running ingrained. I never even heard the term "power running".... which is probably good I guess.... on the other hand I skimmed through a lot of the tai chi posture stuff because i already know it. So... although I did a lot of skipping, the bits I am using I am using well, over & over...
