    Synopsis

Jimena was once the toughest chola in East L.A. No longer in a gang, she is still feared by many. Nothing scares Jimena. Nothing, that is, except the reappearance of Veto, who was once the love of her life. That terrifies her, because Veto was killed a year ago by a rival gang. Or was he? Jimena discovers that he has made a devil's bargain, which could cost both of them their lives.

Author Biography: Lynne Ewing is a screenplay writer who also counsels troubled teens. She is the author of the first two books in the Daughters of the Moon series: Goddess of the Night and Into the Cold Fire. Ms. Ewing lives in Los Angeles, California.

    Annotation

Jimena, who has the gift of seeing the future, must call on the skills she developed as a gang member when Cassandra, a Follower of the evil Atrox, hatches a plot that may destroy the moon goddesses and those they love.

October 08, 2009: I've read the entire series about 6 years ago, and now that I've finally gotten book 13, I'm re-reading the series from start to finish again. I remembered not liking book 4, and most of it having to do with the main focus of Jimena. This time, it's mostly the combo of story and character that irritated me. The spanish was annoying to me. Although most of it is easy to figure out the meaning or Ewing will put the explaination within the paragraph, it's still annoying to go back and forth. I didn't like the story of the book either.. Especially Veto and his whole presence in the story. I enjoy the series as a whole, but reading it now and reading it 6 years younger, I've found a lot of flaws with the stories. The thrill for me isn't really there. I've started to realize that the bulk of the action occurs within the last few chapters in the last 20-25 pages. The rest of the book is a setup of mystery and sometimes confusion. It seems like a lot of social story, which isn't that bad. Don't get me wrong, I like the books, I have grown to love the characters as well, but it's definitly geared towards the younger population of readers. But, I do love these books and am eager to find out how the series ends.. so I'll continue to re-read them all and enjoy!

For stories with a bit more action (thrill, adventure, true mystery, romance etc) check the books that I've recommended. They are sure to be enjoyable additions to your collections if you enjoyed the DOTM books!

I Also Recommend: Book of Shadows (Sweep Series #1), Twilight, The Twilight Saga Collection, Harry Potter Paperback Boxed Set (Books 1-7), The Blue Is for Nightmares Collection.
