    Synopsis

The iPINIONS Journal Commentaries Vol. II

In this volume of political and social commentaries, Anthony Livingston Hall synthesizes the most critical developments of 2006 with remarkable clarity and inimitable wit. But, unlike more celebrated columnists who trade in partisan political talking points, Hall seems beholden to no ideology and is definitely an equal-opportunity critic. Moreover, you would be hard-pressed to find another columnist anywhere who writes as persuasively about the international menace of Iran’s nuclear program as he does about the interpersonal dynamics of an NBA Championship series or what the latest ooops from Britney Spears portends for western civilization.

Hall’s refreshing worldview may stem from the unique fusion of his Caribbean heritage and American education. But it is clearly the informed passion that permeates all of his commentaries that makes this book so riveting!

July 19, 2007: As a somewhat established book reviewer, I tend to be a little more cautious in my ratings than the more casual reviewers at B&N. The iPINIONS Journal earns an easy four-star ranking, but there are a few things potential readers may wish to know about this book. Mr. Hall has entered a very comprehensively competitive genre of news commentary with his Journals based upon his daily blog. His viewpoint is fresh and unbiased, and his language is practiced and literary, however, the persistence of typos belies the lack of adequate proofreading. The Caribbean issues are allowed a bit too much space within the overall theme of the book. Perhaps a little editing of these longer articles would increase the book's appeal? The tone is a little too somber and low-key to bring out the giggles that even serious readers like to experience occasionally. If the author would only speak of George Bush with the same sense of humor with which he describes the antics of George Michael, I would stampede to present The iPINIONS Journal with five stars! Anthony Livingston Hall offers a book full of brief commentary on the most significant world news events of our time. You will encounter the names of numerous world leaders you have heard mentioned on the television news, sandwiched between the endless stories of girls gone wild on drugs, and Mr. Hall will tell you concisely and exactly why you need to care about all those names you cannot spell or pronounce! This new author's work deserves a place on your bookshelf with all those books of similar intent by the celebrity news people. Anthony Livingston Hall has set his goals sky high with his iPINIONS Journal Series, and he deserves the rewards brought by a large readership.
