November 18, 2009: This is the first book in George R.R Martin's "A song of ice and fire" series. For me I found the book to be a slow starter but a powerhouse finish. The character development and the amount of characters in the story added to its overall intrigue. I would recommend this book to most. I'm an average reader and it wasn't what i would call a fast read but sometimes its good to have an epic tale with some meat on its bones. This book was imaginative and eventually engrossing. I look forward to the second book.

October 27, 2009: I had heard so much of George R. R. Martin's masterpiece that I went in with high expectations. I had heard that it was a tale of sweeping majesty, with characters that tore at your heart. I had heard that few authors could rival the stunning prose. I worried that it would not live up to what I had heard.

I had no need to fear. A Song of Ice and Fire is one of the most beautiful and important of all the epic fantasies. I would not pass this book up.

I Also Recommend: The Sword of Shannara (Shannara Series #1), Magician, A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire #2), The Lord of the Rings, The Name of the Wind.
