    Synopsis

This heroic fantasy is set in a world of ominous landscape and macabre menace that is a dark mirror of our own. A spellbinding tale of good versus evil, it features one of Stephen King's most powerful creations - The Gunslinger, a haunting figure who embodies the qualities of a lone hero through the ages, from ancient myth to frontier western legend.

The Gunslinger's quest involves the pursuit of The Man in Black, a liaison with the sexually ravenous Alice, and a friendship with the kid from Earth called Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, here is stunning proof of Stephen King's storytelling sorcery.

    Library Journal

Though retired, King, who is receiving the National Book Foundation's 2003 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, is keeping busy. In addition to penning a monthly column for Entertainment Weekly, he is revising and expanding his "Dark Tower" series, which launched in 1982 with this title. The "Dark Tower" books were immensely popular with King's legions of fans, and he no doubt still has the Midas touch with readers, so these illustrated hardcovers are good fodder for fiction collections. January 17, 2010: This is a series of seven books must read them in order starting with this one it's a great start to what to come of The Gunslinger and the people he meets on the way to the Dark Tower. Like all of his books this will keep you not wanting to stop reading it once you started.

January 07, 2010: I've never read a Stephen King book, but after two friends started reading this series, I decided I had to read it now. Everyone is always saying he is a good writer, and they are right! It is a bit slow-moving at first. That's not a surprise though since it's the first in a series of seven books. It's not a boring read at all though, it just takes a while to get attached to the characters (Like most books). King provides plenty of twists in the mean-time to keep you reading.

I'll be sure to stop by the library when i can to get the next book in the series. King has gotten me very interested in continuing to read his works and i plan to do so. It was a mysterious plot with a dark and twisted sense of humor. Looking forward to reading more of his work! Ive never really read any books like this one so all i can recommend is to read the series yourself if you haven't.

I Also Recommend: The Dark Tower Box Set.
