    Synopsis

This heroic fantasy is set in a world of ominous landscape and macabre menace that is a dark mirror of our own. A spellbinding tale of good versus evil, it features one of Stephen King's most powerful creations - The Gunslinger, a haunting figure who embodies the qualities of a lone hero through the ages, from ancient myth to frontier western legend.

The Gunslinger's quest involves the pursuit of The Man in Black, a liaison with the sexually ravenous Alice, and a friendship with the kid from Earth called Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, here is stunning proof of Stephen King's storytelling sorcery.

    Library Journal

Though retired, King, who is receiving the National Book Foundation's 2003 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, is keeping busy. In addition to penning a monthly column for Entertainment Weekly, he is revising and expanding his "Dark Tower" series, which launched in 1982 with this title. The "Dark Tower" books were immensely popular with King's legions of fans, and he no doubt still has the Midas touch with readers, so these illustrated hardcovers are good fodder for fiction collections. September 28, 2009: I've read a few of Stephen King's novels and enjoyed all previous ones. I did not particularly like The Gunslinger. The plot is slow. The source of motivation of the main character is not clear and therefore it is difficult for the reader to really care. The book is not without good points or good scenes and the writing style is somewhat unique. However, I would only recommend the book to diehard King fans

June 13, 2009: It's Stephen King so it can be bad. I'm a King fan and they say Dark Tower is his best work. so I gave it a shot. From what I heard this is the worst book. But I thought it was good and a quick read. very interesting ending.
