      Synopsis

Walker Percy's mordantly funny and wholly original contribution to the self-help book craze deals with the Western mind's tendency toward heavy abstraction. This favorite of Percy fans continues to charm and beguile readers of all tastes and backgrounds. Lost in the Cosmos invites us to think about how we communicate with our world.

February 02, 2005: Lost in The Cosmos is just as relevant now in the age of Dr. Phil and Fear Factor as it was in 1983. A word to the timid, however: Percy's explanation of Semiotic theory may take more than one reading to fully grasp. For what it's worth, those who understand are more likely to never pick up another self-help book.

May 20, 2000: If this brilliant book does not make you think and laugh, then you are rather homuorless and thoughtless, like Francine Plessix du Gray--in her humorless, witless shallow review.
