June 11, 2009: I'd had the previous title of this book - "Under The Influence; How Christianity Changed the World" - for many years always meaning to read it. I finally did and now I kick myself for not reading it sooner. Author Schmidt lays out the case very well that Christianity literally did change the world in how mankind approached everything in society - religion in general, childbearing/rearing, caring for the sick, education and on and on and on. Schmidt specifies how Christianity's viewpoint on things (with scriptural references) differed from the ancient pagan ways thru Greco-Roman society (specifically what they had been up to time of Christ) and how it's viewpoints led to many, many philosophies, practices, institutions etc that are in existence to this day (where we see these in society today).

A very rational, analytical approach and as I said, a very well presented work.
