(Hardcover)
Children learn the names of adult and baby animals on the farm. Artwork created by artist using handmade paper cut into shapes of animals and letters.
Labeled collage illustrations introduce the names for both adult and baby animals.
PreS-K-Large, colorful cut-paper figures, placed on bright backgrounds, will captivate children as they learn the names of 10 farm residents and their young. In only four words per double-page spread, youngsters are introduced to such creatures as "BIG COW/little calf." The brief lesson ends with "BIG HUMAN/little baby," and shows the child surrounded by wind-up versions of the various animals introduced. The last double-page spread reveals all of the appealing characters together for a review of animal names, counting, or pairing. One small quibble: why "BIG CHICK/little chick," instead of "BIG HEN/little chick?" This title will be enjoyed by prereaders learning word recognition as well as by toddlers.-Maryann H.
