Synopsis

All summer, Jess pushed himself to be the fastest boy in the fifth grade, and when the year's first school-yard race was run, he was going to win. But his victory was stolen by a newcomer, by a girl, one who didn't even know enough to stay on the girls' side of the playground. Then, unexpectedly, Jess finds himself sticking up for Leslie, for the girl who breaks rules and wins races. The friendship between the two grows as Jess guides the city girl through the pitfalls of life in their small, rural town, and Leslie draws him into the world of imagination-a world of magic and ceremony called Terabithia. Here, Leslie and Jess rule supreme among the oaks and evergreens, safe from the bullies and ridicule of the mundane world. Safe until an unforeseen tragedy forces Jess to reign in Terabithia alone, and both worlds are forever changed.

In this poignant, beautifully rendered novel, Katherine Paterson weaves a powerful story of friendship and courage.

Annotation

The life of a ten-year-old boy in rural Virginia expands when he becomes friends with a newcomer who subsequently meets an untimely death trying to reach their hideaway, Terabithia, during a storm.

Publishers Weekly

Just like their print partners, audiobook publishers have movie tie-in fever. Moviegoers/listeners can catch unabridged recordings of the popular tales that inspired current (or soon-to-be-released) family flicks Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, read by the author; Eragon by Christopher Paolini, read by Gerard Doyle; Beatrix Potter Favorite Tales: The Tales of Peter Rabbit and Jemimah Puddle-Duck Read Along Book & CD read by Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor; and Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson, read by Robert Sean Leonard (film scheduled for February 16, 2007, release). All recordings but Peter Rabbit have been previously released, and all four of these selections feature packaging that showcases artwork from their respective films. January 21, 2010: i didn't like it. It was mixed with teenagers acting like little kids with such a dramatic ending. Read some of the books that i liked below if you want a good read.

I Also Recommend: Wolf Rider, Rascal, Eragon (Inheritance Cycle #1), Don't You Dare Read This, Mrs. Dunphrey, Found (Missing Series #1).

January 07, 2010: Bridge to Terabithia, Katherine Patterson

Number of stars (1 to 5): Five!

The Bridge to Terabithia was about a boy named Jess and a girl named Leslie. The main idea of the story was they found a whole another world across the bridge. Together they fought out creatures and spirits and learned all kinds of things. The reader wanted us to expand are minds and imagine harder.

The main points in this movie were probably when they had to fight of imaginary animals and that they had to work together through everything. The author made us have to think like them and such. I think the book achieved the goal and purpose of it. I mean it really made sense because other books I have read weren't as excited as this one. I thought the plot of the story was amazing also I really loved the idea. The conclusion to this story was that they girl had something in her that very special. And the book was you to imagine harder. I think the book was amazing that they should make more books like this one.The book was very nice I say it was five stars. But also the author really put some time in this it was very nice and I really loved the book. And that the book had some wonderful characters in it.
