    Synopsis

February the fifteenth is a very special day for me. It is the day I gave birth to my first child. It is also the day my husband left me...I can only assume the two events weren't entirely unrelated.

Claire has everything she ever wanted: a husband she adores, a great apartment, a good job. Then, on the day she gives birth to their first baby, James informs her that he's leaving her. Claire is left with a newborn daughter, a broken heart, and a postpartum body that she can hardly bear to look at.

She decides to go home to Dublin. And there, sheltered by the love of a quirky family, she gets better. So much so, in fact, that when James slithers back into her life, he's in for a bit of a surprise.

    New York Times Book Review

An eccentric romantic comedy...full of wicked humor.

    Character and plot boringby 3tzmom

October 14, 2009: I tried to like this book, but it was really boring. The topic sounded exciting, but the plot just crawls along. The author spends most of the time having the character's thoughts break into every scene. Everytime I thought something was going to happen (even just interaction between characters) the main character would go off with her thoughts. The main character taking care of her newborn while she was drunk and in bed with depression wasn't very believeable. She would pop up long enough to feed her and then she'ld just lay in her bassinet until the next feeding. Just didn't hit the mark.

June 21, 2009: I bought this book based on the reviews, and I have to say that I was really disappointed. While the story had the potential to be a good book, I found most of the characters to be unlikeable and the author's writing style to be a little obnoxious. She's constantly putting the main character's thoughts in right along with the dialogue, making it almost confusing to follow. And it's not so much that it's confusing, it's just that a lot of it is totally unnecessary. It really wasn't worth the time.
