      Synopsis

Murder in New England is about a girl who was raped and becomes involved in a murder. This becomes a horrible secret between a group of guys and the girl. Because this girl had trouble dealing with this, she moved away as soon as she could, taking yet another secret with her. She returns to her hometown after receiving a note that someone was there that day and witnessed what had happened. She goes back to find out who it was and what the others know, unknowingly putting herself in danger. By chance, this all happens at the same time as her 25th class reunion. Slowly, people around her begin to die, but no matter how afraid she is, she can't leave yet. She needs to find out who sent her that note, and she wants to know the truth about what really happened that day. Her initial instinct is to run but she must stay and put a close to this once and for all, no matter what. Closing the Circle deals with a very dysfunctional family. This family is involved with drugs, incest, gangs, organized crime, robbery, and murder. The story opens with a brutal murder and the family trying to cover it up. We get to go along with this family, consisting of sons, daughters, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren, as they set about destroying their lives and the lives of the people around them.

May 17, 2006: Andrea is a writer returning home to attend her high school reunion. Not that she usually did this. But her publisher had receive a note which passed the note to Andrea. And here we see why Andrea hasn't returned to her home town since high school-and the dark secrets it holds. Andrea had been raped in a woods by the high school. She had become pregnant (although it seems that came with a fling after the rape). Just before Andrea was raped she saw something in the grass nearby-a dead body, the body of another girl from school. The gang that rapes her threatens her life if she ever tells. So tell she never did for 25 years. But the 'gang' is also at the reunion and they want to speak with Andrea. Something makes them think she has spoken or will speak about that awful day. And some of them are determined that she never speak. I wonder how many times a class reunion is surrounded by a half dozen class members dying within that week? Think about that for a moment. Overall I liked the suspense in the book. There were periods of comic relief. However at the end it seemed like the author wanted to tie up loose ends and continued on past the point where the suspense ends. Had the author stopped at the incident at the shack, that would have been great. The follow-up really added nothing to the story, unless a cliffhanger would have been employ. You know, where Mark and Andrea part ways and the reader wonders, 'Do they ever get together?' This would have been a set-up for a sequel. Or about Bonnie, Andrea leaves her after seeing her at the mental health hospital and the reader wants to know what happened-well, buy the sequel.
