      Synopsis

Being heir to a fortune and a family legacy of hidden Confederate gold can be deadly, as readers will find in The Rutherford Cipher, the newest novel by William Rawlings, Jr., best-selling author of The Lazard Legacy.

It's been a long time since Matt Rutherford has held a steady job. But with the death of his elderly aunt Lillie, the out-of-work, over-educated former dot-com executive has come into enough inheritance money to do whatever he wants - if only he can survive long enough to cash in on his legacy.

That's because his inheritance might include lost Confederate gold - a fortune in ingot buried at a secret location but revealed in an old map stumbled on by Matt.

Problem is, others know about the gold - and the old map. They will stop at nothing to claim the treasure for themselves, even if it means murder.

As if that isn't enough, Matt must also clear his name in his cousin's murder - a death that might have stemmed from someone else seeking the lost treasure.

The Rutherford Cipher, a fast-paced action thriller by veteran author William Rawlings, Jr., might lead you on your own hunt for Confederate gold.

October 15, 2004: This book is great fun - Rawlings gets better with each book. Even if you are not Southern (heaven forbid!) you will want to sit down and read it at one sitting. Keep up the good work - we want more!

October 08, 2004: It's hard to believe that this is only the author's second book. I really enjoyed this book, even more so than his first 'The Lazard Legacy', which is great as well. I was priveleged to hear Dr. Rawlings speak at a book signing on the elements of a great fiction novel and he hit them all. The plot is suspenseful and entertaining, You won't want to put it down. This book is written in the first person and you can really see and feel everything as if it is happening around you. This author is brand new and cranking out a great book almost every year, they will only get better. I was able to hear a reading of the first few chapters of his next novel to come. Guess what? It gets better.
