    Synopsis

Christopher Boone is a fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism. He knows a great deal about math and very little about human beings. When he finds his neighbors's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his world upside down.

    Annotation

Despite his overwhelming fear of interacting with people, Christopher, a mathematically-gifted, autistic fifteen-year-old boy, decides to investigate the murder of a neighbor's dog and uncovers secret information about his mother.

author of Atonement and Amsterdam - Ian McEwan

Mark Haddon's portrayal of an emotionally dissociated mind is a superb achievement. He is a wise and bleakly funny writer with rare gifts of empathy.

October 26, 2009: I especially enjoyed the insight into how the mind of an autistic child works since the story was told from his perspective. Autism is such a mysterious illness to most of us and I could feel the frustration of the parents being unable to hug their son. The fact that his parents were divorced was also something most of us would consider difficult for a "normal" child, much less one with autism.

This book was actually assigned for summer reading for my teens but I read it, too, and thoroughly enjoyed.

October 10, 2009: A book written through the eyes of an Autistic Adolescent. I hoped I learned a little about Autisim from reading this book. The style kept my interest. It was original and touching. It is great for conversation. Everyone in my family read it. My daughter wants to keep it in her Permanent Library. It is my book however and all of my books go to the Troops in Iraq. She is 21 so I think she will get over it. LOL Enjoy!!!!!!
