A former curator of textiles and costume at the National Museum of Iceland (which houses the largest collection of traditional Icelandic embroideries) presents a survey, in English, of Icelandic needlework techniques since the Middle Ages as they appear on cushion covers, coverlets, altar pieces, mittens, and other items. Nicely illustrated in color, the volume also includes 22 embroidery patterns for those with a practical interest.
