December 30, 2002: I was given this book by my mother shortly after I began a job with a local school district. This book is an excellent resource for anyone who is (or plans to be) exposed to kids on a daily basis, parents and educators alike. It explains clearly and concisely some of the learning styles that exist, and how they are different. Carefully and deliberately stressing that no one style is better than another, the author gives characteristics of each in order to help the reader to better understand a child that they may be dealing with. This book is also valuable in helping the reader to determine his or her own dominant learning styles and how to use them to his or her greatest advantage. The text helped me to learn a lot about my own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning. It also gave me some insight on how to appreciate others who may react differently to new information, be it academic or otherwise. I have taken a few basic psychology courses in college and was happy to recognize a lot of the sources in the book as reputable individuals. This book is written in an easily readable font and includes anecdotes from the author which help to personalize the information discussed. I found the information very relevant to my own life and, by the end, I wanted to know more about learning styles. Helpful to me was the annotated bibliography at the end. It gives the reader a place to find more information. I will enjoy reading more on the topic and appreciate the author for her dedicated work on the subject.
