February 10, 2010: This book is about the struggle of an Olympic athlete that over comes cancer. The Challenges he faced are more than a person could ever imagine. He showed courage to be able to tell people that he was human and he was not taken out of the bad that comes to all people. I liked how honest he was about what had happened to him and what it felt like. He always did a good job explaining how he got through the challenges he had to face. I didn't like some of the details of the surgery. I did like how you could have feeling about the emotions that he was going through. I would recommend this to people going through hard times and life and needs someone to look to as guidance. Other books to read are Jesse.

February 09, 2010: Lance Armstrong and Sally Jenkins hit one out of the park with the story of Lance Armstrong's struggle with cancer. Lance tells stories of his childhood and the hardships that he and his mother had encountered throughout his lifetime. His book was not just about his struggle with cancer, he described the feelings he encountered on the bike, whether it was winning a race or coming in dead last. Family is important to Lance Armstrong and nothing shows that more than his wonderful descriptions of his mother Linda, and his wife Kik.

Lance Armstrong and his family have had many hard times with his battle with cancer and struggles in the sport of Cycling. However, that did not stop Lance from overcoming his becoming one of the best cyclists of all time. A constant message throughout the book was that just because someone tells you that you can't do something, doesn't mean that they are right. Lance proved everybody wrong when he defeated cancer and then went on to win the Tour De France seven times afterwords. Lance however did not do it alone, his other crucial message in this book was that family is very important.

I really enjoyed this book but I there were parts that I didn't like too. I really enjoyed the stories of his trips through France during the portions of the Tour De France that he did race. I liked the parts of his book when he write about his experiences in the racing world. I also really enjoyed learning about his experiences in the hospital like the one time his nurse told Lance to breathe slow and deeply into some sort of breathing apparatus that tested his lungs, he finished the test with ease. However some parts that I didn't like were the times when he told about his mother being cheated on.

This is a great book for many people to read. It is inspiring and interesting. His book is entertaining and in my opinion it is very optimistic for Lance to have come so close to death so many times. This book would be a great choice for a book if you are looking to be inspired or for a book club, where people can relate to his overcoming of cancer. This book would not be a great gift giving book, but it can interest you in the way that he handled his situation. This story is truly inspiring in a way that he want from nothing to becoming a great cyclist.

Overall Lance Armstrong and Sally Jenkins did a great job writing this book. I give it four out of five stars. Lance Armstrong is a truly inspiring American hero.
