      Synopsis

Here is a new entry from the legendary series that has already been published in 11 languages. After a four-year wait, Alita is back, making her way through an apocalyptic universe. Picking up from the middle of the previous book, Angel's Ascension, our heroine encounters a new group of bizarre characters and revisits many of her old friends and foes. Reconstructed by Doc Ido, a talented cyborg physician, Alita has lost all memory of her former life. But there's one thing her body has not forgotten - it still instinctively recalls the Panzer Kunst, the most powerful cyborg fighting technique ever known. Bounty hunter, singer, killer: as the secrets of Alita's past unfold, every day is a struggle for survival, and her fighting talents are stretched to the limit. Can Alita alone stop the war chaos between the robotic denizens of the M.I.B. bureau and the Tipharians?

      Library Journal

Kishiro's excellent nine-volume "Battle Angel Alita" manga series, published in the United States from 1992 to 1998, exemplifies many elements of the appeal that sf manga and anime holds for American fans, with its intense action and combat, detailed renderings of inventive super-technology, unpredictable story line, surprisingly deep philosophical bent, and cute heroine. Now, Kishiro has jettisoned the series' original, hastily created ending and begun this sequel series to take its place, continuing cyborg warrior Alita's odyssey of self-discovery. After being killed by the mad scientist Desty Nova, Alita awakens, fully restored by Nova, in the floating city of Tiphares. Tiphares has always been viewed as a paradise by the dwellers in the Scrapyard on the surface below, where Alita spent much of her life. But there are terrible secrets behind Tiphares, and Nova's broadcast of one of them brings chaos, destruction, and death to the floating city. Kishiro's art is as fluid and impressive as ever. Given its explicit violence, the series is rated "T+: for older teens" by Viz. The original series and this sequel are recommended for all collections, especially for older teen and adult fans of manga and anime such as Ghost in the Shell and Neon Genesis Evangelion. September 02, 2003: Alita, the battle angel returns, and i can just say, Angel Reborn ROCKS! Alita awakes to find that she's somehow in the floating city of Tiphares, and that the city is in chaos. She must now protect a small group of children as best she can, while encountering a host of new and old enemies. Yukito Kishiro hasn't lost his talent, his art is as stunning as in previous Battle Angel books, and perhaps even better. He still draws the reader into the guesome world, and leaves you wanting more.
