March 30, 2009: This is a great book, very well written with an emphasis on Luther's life as well as the historical background of the period. It was written in the late 1800's, however it has enough relevance for even today.

July 11, 2003: Bainton's biography of Luther should be on every Christian bookshelf. It gives a thorough but readable account of Luther's life and his role in the Reformation, as well as his impact on history. Even if you are not a Christian, if history interests you this book will be to your liking.
