November 01, 2007: basso's superstar is a dark and creepy 'guilty pleasure'. what makes me feel this way is that it's a real-life story about how cruddy life can be and also that not every cruddy life story will necessarily have a 'rosey' turn-around ending. yes, there's a lot of uplifting responses to the curve balls that were thrown at basso in his life, but what is interesting is that the end of the book reminds us that there's no guarantee in life of anything, not even a picture-perfect hollywood ending after things had been bad. what is present is a reality that bad times should be accepted for what they are and good times are the result of not being messed in the head. that's a funny way to look at it, but that's what i got out of this story and the series of writings.

February 08, 2007: This book by R. Martin Basso is an interesting journey of self discovery and insight. I found it to be entertaining and inspiring. Basso can get a little deep but that just made it all the more fascinating. I think he has had an interesting life and that he would be quite a revealing person to get to know.
