    Synopsis

Covarrubias (communication studies, U. of Montana) presents findings from an ethnographic study of some 550 workers in a major construction company in Veracruz, Mexico, conducted in 1997 and 1998. Drawing from the ethnography of communication originally conceived by Dell Hymes in 1962, the author uses Hymes' "SPEAKING" heuristic as a framework for exploring pronominal strategies in Mexican organizations and their linkages to workplace cooperation. This reprint of the 2002 publication contains no changes to the text but makes the work available in paperback form. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
