    Synopsis

Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power except one -- the One Ring that rules them all -- which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. Young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task when Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

Books of the Century; The New York Times Book Review - W.H. Auden

For anyone who likes the genre to which it belongs, the Heroic Quest, I cannot imagine a more wonderful Christmas present....No fiction I have read in the last five years has given me more joy than The Fellowship of the Ring.

    Biography

It seems an unlikely formula for success: an Oxford professor of Anglo-Saxon, and a book that begins with a little man who lives in a hole in the ground. But The Hobbit, followed by The Lord of the Rings, created the modern genre of heroic fantasy and made J.R.R. Tolkien one of the most widely-read authors in the world.

September 16, 2009: The fellowship of the ring is a great book about fantasy and adventure. This is my second favorite book from him next to the hobbit. This is a great choice for summer reading. J.R.R. Tolkien has a large history in fantasy. I based my review on my opinion while I read. It contains a large journey through middle earth. It is a very good book. It has all of the things that a fantasy book needs. It also has a great adventure. It is great for summer reading. I liked the plot. It was a fun book from start to finish.
