It's simple: If children don't understand what they read, they will never embrace reading. And that limits what they can learn while in school. This fact frightens parents, worries teachers, and ultimately hurts children.
7 Keys to Comprehension is the result of cutting-edge research. It gives parents and teachers—those who aren't already using this valuable program—practical, thoughtful advice about the seven simple thinking strategies that proficient readers use:
• Connecting reading to their background knowledge
• Creating sensory images
• Asking questions
• Drawing inferences
• Determining what's important
• Synthesizing ideas
• Solving problems
Easily understood, easily applied, and proven successful, this essential educational tool helps parents and teachers to turn reading into a fun and rewarding adventure.

August 17, 2003: FINALLY! A book for parents to use in helping their kids love reading. This book offers parents a way to connect with their kids in the exploration of the world of literature. I have already begun to change the way I think, read and talk with my kids about their understanding of what they read. This book offers a way for parents to really get involved with their kids' reading comprehension by focusing on how we all think while we read. Children will be so much more engaged in their reading if they can visualize while they read, make connections to their own lives and truly bring meaning to what they are reading. I highly recommend this book for both parents and teachers. If children don't have a deep understanding of what they are reading, they won't be tuned in.
