Daniel Levine is former Professor of Education at the University of Nebraska. The coauthor of the seventh edition of the classic text by Robert J. Havighurst, SOCIETY AND EDUCATION, Dr. Levine has also authored numerous journal articles and papers on the topic of urban education.
Gerry Gutek is the former dean of the School of Education at Loyola University in Chicago. He updates "Part Two: Historical and Philosophical Foundations" in this edition of FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION.

May 10, 2002: This text is very descriptive and detailed in the foundations of education, primarily the secondary level. However, I do sense that the author inserts too many personal opinions. His views on rural education could be debated, along with many others. But for future teachers, this is an excellent book to hang on to.
