September 23, 2004: the book is good because it tells you history and politics without being boring, and it also tells you about social science, psychology and identity of the arab and north afriacan people. also ,there is no bias of religion, even though the writer claims to be a christian. would be interested in reading other related titles from the author. thanx!

May 24, 2004: This is an excellent book! The author makes you learn so much things, but doesn't bore you or make you depressed. In fact, she helps people realize that they're really NOT the only ones with that kind of problems! And let's face it, sosososososososo many first generation Americans feel left out of American Culture, while others feel left out of the Culture that they left. This book speaks to them both. I had the great fortune of reviewing the book for a coptic magazine I write for, and let me tell you! This is good stuff! The biggest drawback is the use of slang, which might confuse a FOB. On the other hand, maybe they'll learn from the book! The biggest draws are the style, the information and topics that are covered, the fact that she covers all of the religions and remains pretty biased-free, and the breadth of things that you maybe never thought of (I never knew about 'naiive bilinguals' and that kinda thing, so thanks!
