    Synopsis

Murder Was Never So Much Fun!

When Disco Bloodbath was first published, it created a storm of controversy for its startlingly vivid, strikingly fresh, and outrageously funny depiction of the hedonistic world of the New York City club kids, for whom nothing was too outré -- including murder. Nominated for the Edgar Award for best true-crime book of the year, it also marked the debut of an audaciously talented writer, James St. James, who himself had been a club kid and close friend and confidant of Michael Alig, the young man convicted of killing the drug dealer known as Angel.

Now the book has been brought to the screen as Party Monster, with Macaulay Culkin playing killer Michael Alig and Seth Green as author/celebutante James St. James.

    Baltimore Sun

A vastly entertaining, scarily well-written, and horrifically funny book...even at its most gruesome.

    Biography

James St. James who was once dubbed a "celebutante" by Newsweek magazine, now leads a quiet, sedate existence in Los Angeles, far from the madness that he writes about. This is his first book.

July 30, 2009: Michael Alig was a sweet kid that was swept away by the New York lifestyle and his need to fit in as a queer teen.James St James REALLY made you see the changes drugs can bring and that life is what YOU make it.If you allow others to turn your path, it could be straight off the deep end ,darling.

November 18, 2008: his book was based off a true story. So I believe the authors purpose, was to get the story out. Maybe, the purpose was to show what drugs and bad people can do to you. You can be one person at one minute and change to a completely different person another. ""Baby I can make you both stars!" That?s how I put it. And they were sold. "You two are going to be, hold onto your hats, CLUB KID DRUG DEALERS! Oh, you'll make a fortune. They all do. AND FUN! Woo Doggie! You'll have the time of your lives. You'll look back on it for the rest of your lives!"(p. 127). Michael Alig was a sweet, innocent, and naïve boy. When he went to New York and started his new life, he changed into a monster. The author most likely was intending the audience to be teens and young adults. These groups of people are at the point in their lives where the risk so much. They try so hard to fit in and be cool.
?Party Monster? is writing in first person. James St. James is the one who made Michael Alig who he was. It is important that he tells the story because if it wasn?t for him, we wouldn?t have seen how much Michael changed. It was written from the 1990?s. The characters and situations fit well with the time period. Parties like these and the drugs were realistic, so were the situations. I don?t really think anything that happened was unrealistic. It all fit well, and everything that happened, could have happened. I feel this was because; drugs can make people do crazy and stupid things. Even if it is completely life altering.
I would have to say I relate mostly to Keoki (in the movie-Wilmer Valderrama?s Character). He met Michael and fell in love with him, when Michael was a nice guy. Then Michael started being mean to him, and it broke his heart. This is another way the book shows changes. The author defiantly had success with this book. I learned a lot from this book. You shouldn?t let anyone, or anything take over you and your morals.
I don?t find that I have read any other books or movies that relate to Party Monster, except, the Movie ?Party Monster?. The book was first written as ?Disco Bloodbath: A Fabulous but True Tale of Murder in Clubland?. It was made into the Movie, then another book from the movie. The significance of the title ?Party Monster? is the parties and drugs that turn people into monsters.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a comedy/Drama/Crime and any teens or young adults. They would be able to relate to it. Because any teen would know how it feels to want to fit in.
I absolutely loved this book. It shows what goes through a persons mind. There was a lot of drama and it was very surprising. It was something I could stay with the entire time. The book is also comical. The ending was amazing, I was surprised. What happened in the end, I thought if it was going to happen, it would have been other people that it happened to.
Over all I give ?Party Monster? a score of 4 out of 5 . It can get confusing, but the book in general is amazing. When you think about everything, overall, you realize that these kinds of things really can happen. Maybe not in the way they did in the book, but it can still occur. But, you also have to realize, that in the 90?s the parties and drugs, happened just like this.
