Deadly Secrets In The Motor City is a delightfully witty, fast-paced, suspenseful, and entertaining female detective novel sure to please fans of the genre.
Jackie Jones is the newest entrant into the world of fictional private investigators. African-American, 35 and divorced, Jackie calls Detroit, Michigan home. A former cop with the Detroit Police Department, she is attractive, tough, streetwise, adventurous, witty, and romantic. She is currently involved in an interracial relationship with a homicide detective named Sam Taylor, and has a feisty German Shepherd named Leroy.
When her ex-husband, Frank Jones, the Motor City's first African-American District Attorney, suspects his new wife, Candi, of having an affair, he hires Jackie to prove it. She finds his suspicions more than a little ironic, considering it was his own infidelity with Candi that ended their marriage.
Jackie ends up with more than sweet revenge when she finds Frank hanging from a ceiling beam in her living room with a suicide note stuffed in his mouth. She is determined to prove he was murdered, with Sam's help, and in the process unravels a mystery and exposes deadly secrets that put her life in danger.

June 02, 2003: I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite a few flaws. Jackie Jones, the PI in this story is smart, savvy and all together believable. Mr. Flowers should be commended for never allowing the characters in this book to become 'stock cartoon characters'. The one flaw in this book, is that the identity of the killer is readily apparent rather early in the work and the justification for the killer's actions a bit simplistic. Despite that, Mr. Flowers has written such an engaging heroine, I'll forgive a few flaws.
