May 14, 2003: William R. Cooney?s memoir, LUCK WAS A STRANGER, is the delightful story of one man?s life. From growing up in Ireland (where he also went to seminary school and almost became a priest) to his immigrating first to Canada and then to America, where he planned to make a fresh start of it, this is a fascinating story throughout. Cooney has an engrossing and entertaining style, which is often very funny. He certainly is quite the character! But there?s also tragedy here as well. The full spectrum of human experience. I definitely recommend it. An enjoyable read!
