      Synopsis

In its eleven years of broadcasting, M*A*S*H brought to the viewer what a situation comedy could be -- one full of warmth, intelligence, humor, and humanity. Set in a Korean War zone, its most poignant moments (as well as its most hilarious) will never be forgotten. The final 2 1/2-hour episode of M*A*S*H was seen by more than 125 million viewers and signaled the end of an era in television. In homage to the popular show, this "photo-journal" reprises all eleven seasons and each of the 251 episodes. Throughout, there are color and black-and-white photographs of key scenes in the show as well as off-the-set shots; interviews with producers Larry Gelbart, Gene Reynolds, and Burt Metcalfe; actors Alan Alda, Wayne Rogers, Loretta Switt, Jamie Farr, Mike Farrell, William Christopher, Larry Linville, Gary Burghoff, and David Ogden Stiers; and the show's directors. Author Suzy Kalter has pored over archival material from Twentieth Century-Fox and memorabilia from the Smithsonian Institution to bring readers this complete M*A*S*H tribute, complete with a listing of awards, the licensing of merchandise, and a filmography. From the pilot episode to the final "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen," this book offers hours of enjoyment and sheer nostalgia for the legions of fans of this landmark television show. 9 3/4" x 11 3/4".

November 14, 2004: The episode capsules were nice, but not nearly as accurate as they could have been. Dialogue was inaccurate in many instances as were plots and story lines. Many times the essential parts of the story, which should have been in the capsule, were left out. The photographs that appear in the book are superior as well as the season intros from the shows stars. All in all worth a look, but a real M*A*S*H fan will find the inaccuracies quickly.

June 22, 2003: I purchased this title as a gift for a M.A.S.H. aficionado friend. It was a BIG hit! Great oversized book with lots of glossy photos.
