      Synopsis

Their jobs are a remarkable campaign of bravery and risk under routine conditions, but when a natural disaster strikes Baltimore their jobs call for them to put their skills to the test and their lives on the line. They are paramedics, fire fighters, police officers, doctors, and nurses. Following a natural disaster, these emergency workers stand ready to selflessly save the lives of strangers. They don't do it for the money or the glory, they do it out of a sense of duty. As the city of Baltimore enters a time of need, emergency workers stand together as comrades and put their lives on hold to help others. They are doing their jobs.

January 04, 2005: Service and Sacrifice is an action-rich and lifelike depiction of apocalyptic disaster, dead-on in its portrayal of the organizational infrastructure of America?s emergency response agencies and the everyday lives of its personnel. Diverse and original characters quite endemic to these dangerous professions spring into action as nature unleashes its rage on Baltimore, Maryland. Baxter paints a real-world picture of the heroic efforts, humanitarianism, low pay, long hours, and the tireless, tedious, and sometimes thankless tasks of America?s police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency room personnel. This book is a literary monument to the timeless American heroism and Classic American bravery of our emergency response professionals.

November 01, 2004: You have a real good sense of immediacy and being 'RIGHT THERE' and I liked reading it - it propelled me through with pictures in my head of this scene and that.
