(Hardcover)
Pozrikidis (U. of California at San Diego) introduces the theoretical foundation and practical implementation of the finite element method and its companion spectral element method to an audience expected to consist of students and practitioners in science and engineering, computational scientists, and applied mathematicians. He presents six chapters covering the finite element method in one dimension, high- order and spectral elements in one dimension, the finite element method in two-dimensions, quadratic and spectral elements in two dimensions, applications in solid and fluid mechanics, and finite and spectral element methods in three dimensions. Throughout, he demonstrates the hands-on application of the material through computer implementation of MATLAB functions. In addition, he provides appendices discussing function interpolation, orthogonal polynomials, lineal solvers, element grid generation, and a MATLAB primer.
