Synopsis

Ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen often think of life before the war. It's now 1943 and their life in Copenhagen is filled with school, food shortages, and the Nazi soldiers marching through town. When the Jews of Denmark are "relocated," Ellen moves in with the Johansens and pretends to be one of the family. Soon Annemarie is asked to go on a dangerous mission to save Ellen's life.

November 11, 2009: I enjoyed this book greatly, as i do most of Lois Lowry. this book was based on true events and felt real as you were reading. most books are a little slow starting out. as was this one but it got to the action with just a couple chapters. overall it was a small book but i think that made it all the more enjoyable to read.

A Good Way To Introduce the Holocaustby Dream-Girlz

November 09, 2009: I had bought this book for Children's Literature class. Compared to some of the books out there for children to read about the Holocaust, I thought this one was a good way to introduce the Holocaust to children. In my opinion, this book had a less gory side to the Holocaust and a different point of view to how the Holocaust. Some had to face the concentration camps and those stories were the most common but the ones who were barely able to escape with the help of friends had a more happier side to the story.

I Also Recommend: Gathering Blue, The Giver, Messenger, Briar Rose.
