September 27, 2009: The Princess and the Three Knights by Karen Kingsbury and Gabrielle Grimard is a beautifully illustrated fairy tale that will quickly become a family favorite. First, here are Mia's feelings about the book: I like it, I like the whole thing. The artwork is wonderful and fantastic. I learned that love always protects. My favorite part in the whole book was the happily ever after, because the princess and her husband looked so happy. I definitely want to keep this book forever! It makes me feel happy, and I love the book! Now my thoughts: Grimard's illustrations are just gorgeous and perfectly capture the fairy tale feel with an extra dose of pink to thrill its feminine readers. Kingsbury writes in the voice of classic fairy tales giving the book a timeless appeal. Her message of love always protecting is an important one to emphasize to little girls, and she does it with Scripture and through example. It's a book that will please both parents and their daughters.

September 24, 2009: Esmé here, reviewing my very own book! I am one-two years old (29 months).

This book is called The Princess and the Three Knights. It is written by Karen Kingsbury, who has written LOTS of books, and is illustrated by Gabrielle Grimard. It's a Christian picture book targeted for ages 4-7.

Here's the publisher's synopsis: "The King challenges three knights to prove their love for his daughter. True love wins in Karen Kingsbury's heart-warming tale of inner beauty and devotion."

What is the book about? A princess!

Is that a picture of a castle? It is not a castle. It is the princess's house!

Tell me about the princess. She has looonngg hair. She is sad.

Now she is happy! She is making the children happy, too! Her dress is pretty!

These men want to marry her. What are they doing? Are they racing? They are riding horses! Neigh!

How many knights are competing to marry her? One-two-three!

Who do you think should marry her? I like THAT one! (points to the one in red)

      Why? I like his coat!

Shouldn't she marry this one instead? (points to the one with the right answer who ends up marrying the princess) The one who shows he really loves her? OK.

Do you like this book? Yeah!

      Mommy's Notes

Karen Kingsbury is a favorite author of mine, so I was excited to have the chance to review a children's book by her. I wasn't disappointed - this book is gorgeous!

It's a sweet fairy tale, destined to be a classic, with great illustrations and a 1 Corinthians 13 twist. If you have a princess-loving child, this is a perfect way to introduce the concept of love.
