    Synopsis

The most dangerous man to cross is one who isn't afraid to die. But the most deadly is one who doesn't want to live. And Spenser has just lost the woman who made life his #1 priority.

So when a religious sect kidnaps a pretty young dancer, no death threat can make Spenser cut and run. Now a hit man's bullet is wearing Spenser's name. But Boston's big boys don't know Spenser's ready and willing to meet death more than halfway.

"Tough, wisecracking, unafraid and unexpectedly literate --in many respects the very exemplar of the species." (The New York Times)

    Biography

Featuring rapid-fire dialogue and spicy characters, Robert B. Parker's books are top-shelf reading for fans of detective crime novels. His Spenser series is several titles strong and an established classic; lately Parker has raised the stakes with two additional series (one featuring private eye Sunny Randle, the other featuring police chief Jesse Stone) that may eventually rival his beloved Boston P.I.

November 08, 2000: This is another Spenser and Hawk story set in Boston with much of it concentrated in the Back Bay section. It was written during a period when Spenser was heavily involved with Susan Silverman and, in this book, distracted by her absence. Spencer seems to stagger through the story while Hawk is always there to save him. Hawk is mentally and physically one step ahead of Spenser on this case. Judged as a whole , I found this to be one of Parker's best novels.

November 03, 2000: The best Spenser novel in a long time! With Susan leaving he explores time with other women( which is good for him at the time). It's a great mystery novel of love, mystery, suspense, plenty of action, and of course Hawk by him every step of the way. I think the best part of the book were the ending chapters(awesome).I can't wait to read A Catskill Eagle to find out what happens between him and Susan. But I'm sure they will come togetheg again.
