    Synopsis

With this breakout novel, the meg gardiner fan club is growing...

A string of high-profile murder-suicides has San Francisco more rattled than the string of recent earthquakes. Hired by the SFPD to shed light on the victims' lives, forensic psychiatrist Jo Beckett makes a shocking discovery: all the suicides belonged to a group of A-listers with lots of money and plenty to hide. And soon Jo finds herself trapped in a nightmare from her past when she gets invited to join the club...

    Stephen King

If you read Sue Grafton, Lee Child, Janet Evanovich, Michael Connelly, or Nelson DeMille, you're going to think Meg Gardiner is a gift from heaven....the next suspense superstar.

May 23, 2009: Most of this suspenseful tale is well-written and absorbing. Fortunately the romantic subplot doesn't slow things down, but is well-integrated into the main plot about strange and violent murder-suicides in San Francisco. For me the only drawback was the endlessly dragged-out chase at the end, loaded with improbable coincidences and cliffhangers. It was so predictable I skimmed much of this part. A good twist at the end salvages the book, though!

I Also Recommend: Alibi Man, The Sleeping Doll (Kathryn Dance Series #1).

May 02, 2009: Meg Gardiner is consistently an original. Her plot is mostly unpredictable and I enjoyed the read. Despite the length of the book the reading was fast paced. I prefer her Evan Delaney character, but appreciate the flawed heroine. Loved the quick tie-in with Jessie (from the Delaney series). This is a detail that avid readers/fans can appreciate and shows Gardiner is in this for more than the money...she's thinking. I like that.
