    Synopsis

"I've been a questioner all my life..."

So begins bestselling author and award-winning actress Shirley MacLaine, as she invites readers to join her on the most powerful, provocative journey of her life. Over the years, Shirley has firmly established herself as a fearless, iconoclastic thinker and seeker of truth. Now, as she confronts the realities and rewards of growing older, she reflects on the greater understanding of her own place in the universe that her experiences have brought to her.

Sparked by the experience of moving into a new house, she is inspired to look back across the remarkable professional and personal milestones she has experienced so far. Surrounded by books, pictures, and the artifacts of a life well lived, Shirley is able to recognize the profound power of synchronicity at work around her, discovering the invisible threads that stitch together the seemingly random events of her days, adding meaning even to the mundane.

Having grown older, she is increasingly concerned with the potential pitfalls of modern medicine. She shares personal insights into nutrition, acupuncture, homeopathy, and alternative medicine. Practical and bracing, here is advice for anyone looking to expand his or her understanding of health and well-being.

Moving beyond the physical, Shirley explores what has always interested her most -- those things that are unseen. What is consciousness? What is the purpose of our lives? Are we alone in the universe? And perhaps the greatest mystery of all, what happens to us after death?

Filled with her trademark wit and candor, this is a fascinating, inspiring book that will delight and captivateShirley's legions of fans and fellow travelers everywhere.

    Graham Christian - Library Journal

Something about MacLaine beggars intelligent response, whether it is the provocative and perhaps illegal things her body did in Sweet Charityor the improbable and certainly entertaining things her soul has been doing for the last several thousand years. Beloved dancer and actress and the author of ten best-selling "memoirs," she concedes that she is now occasionally confused. She admits only to confusion about her car keys, but the rest of us, while glad of her company, wish she would clarify our confusion about whether she is talking about Ocean's Eleven, Star Beings, Stephen Hawking, or Atlantis, all of which she discusses with eager rapidity. In this fine roller-coaster ride of memory, speculation, and prognostication, MacLaine has a mighty good time, and many readers will be happy to ride with her. P.S. Just hang on until December 12, 2012, and tell them Shirley sent you. For most collections. [See Prepub Alert, 7/07.]

July 08, 2008: This book does cause one to question our government's honesty about information concerning UFO's. There seems to be facts supported by scientists in this book. While reading the book, I paused a great deal to think about my own life experiences and try to connect with the author's experiences.

January 17, 2008: Ms. MacLaine's latest book Sage-ing While Age-ing is a disappointment in comparison to her earlier volumes, most of which I have read with delight. This work seems to be a rehashing of all the esoterica she could think of to put in the book. Most people interested in the occult have heard about or read about almost everything she has written, so it was old news to me and I'm sure to many others. I rather liked it when she actually shared a trip and wrote what she experienced during her travels. Also, it was a bit disconcerting to see how she has no filter over her belief system and is willing to see everything she learns as the 'truth'. She did provide a couple of new names for me to look up, so it wasn't a complete loss.
