      Synopsis

Watch the world of nature come alive during a vibrant, interactive walk with Maisy.

It’s a beautiful day, and Maisy is setting out on a nature walk. Little readers can pull the tabs to see a yellow flower unfurl, a snail poke out of its shell, a duckling hatch, a frog leap, and more. This Maisy First Science Book also prompts children to find treasures such as a chrysalis and a dragonfly. What better way to welcome the spring?

      Children's Literature

This book is sub-titled "A Maisy First Science Book," and in it, the ever-popular mouse, drawn as always in a style that looks as if a young child might have done it, takes a walk. As she passes a pond or stops to examine a flower, Maisy takes the time to notice the everyday wonders of nature. On every other page, there is a tab to pull with an arrow to show which way to move it. Pulling a duck's tail toward the back of the book makes the duck's head lurch forward. Pulling another tab up causes three rabbits to hop up from their burrows. Another tab pulled forward causes an egg to crack open and a baby duck to come out. On the left hand side of each double-page spread is a section with special things to notice on that page with their names written beneath. All the illustrations appear again on the last page, and, with a pull on the tab, two ducks flap their wings to fly away. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
