    Synopsis

Orphaned as a baby, Harry Potter has spent 11 awful years living with his mean aunt, uncle, and cousin Dudley. But everything changes for Harry when an owl delivers a mysterious letter inviting him to attend a school for wizards. At this special school, Harry finds friends, aerial sports, and magic in everything from classes to meals, as well as a great destiny that's been waiting for him...if Harry can survive the encounter. From an author who has been compared to C. S. Lewis and Roald Dahl, this enchanting, funny debut novel won England's National Book Award and the prestigious Smarties Prize.

    Annotation

Rescued from the outrageous neglect of his aunt and uncle, a young boy with a great destiny proves his worth while attending Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

    Sunday Times

Lectura recomendada del año...la comparación con Roald Dahl por una vez está justificada.

A phenomenon like Harry Potter does not come along very often. The young wizard and his eager companions Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley have inspired countless children to delve into reading with a fervor rarely seen, and we have J. K. Rowling to thank for that! Rowling has created a fantastic world of wizards and muggles, ghosts and trolls, and good and evil that has completely revitalized a love of reading in both kids and adults all over the world.

December 19, 2009: Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone is a novel by J.K. Rowling tells about an 11 year old boy whose parents were murdered by the sorcerer lord voldemort. Harry was adopted by his aunt's mistreating family. On his 11th birthday a half-giant enters the house to invite him to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. Harry learns to love magic, meet new friends and discover his past. This book is simply is simply amazing, I'd recommend to children, teens, even adults.

From the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone I can tell you that J.K. Rowling writes with a lot of suspense, thrills, and surprises. Also she writes in 3rd person format, meaning that she doesn't write from a perspective of any character in the story. The book always takes a 360 spin that changes the plot completely, and keeps you glued to the book. The lion the witch and the wardrobe, is from the fantasy series chronicles of Narnia, both are great books, but there is a slight difference. In the lion the witch and the wardrobe the characters discover magic by mistake, the biggest difference is that Harry Potter's story is based on a school while in the lion the witch and the wardrobe they have to defend their kingdom.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a great book for all fantasy lovers and I strongly recommend it. I say if you are looking for a fantasy book this is for you, no matter who you are.

I Also Recommend: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter #2), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter #2), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter #3), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter #4), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter #5).

December 08, 2009: What a wonderful series of books that are suitable for both children and adults. Who hasn't imagined a life outside the humdrum of reality where you've become something extraordinary. It reminds me of both the Looney Tunes cartoons that were funny but didn't talk down to children and thereby adults could enjoy them as well and the best comical Charles Dickens tales & characters (e.g. The Pickwick Papers). The characters are imaginative and strong. The plots are complicated, but not overly so. While the movies are good, the books go into much more detail therefore making the experience even better. Add to that the audiobooks with Jim Dale (Tony Award-winning actor and voice over person for "Pushing Daisies" on TV) reading with all the encumbent intonations, inflections and wonderful characterizations. If reading the books seem boring (I simply can't imagine that), then I would suggest getting the audiobook version to listen to Jim Dale.

I Also Recommend: Homer Price, Henry Reed, Inc., Half Magic, The Pickwick Papers, A Christmas Carol.
