Description:Since 1997, this comprehensive review of Genitourinary Radiology continues with the goals of the first edition. Dr. Zagoria provides thorough and concise information updated with the latest techniques and pertinent images.
Purpose:The purpose of this text is to promote readability by offering concise and targeted up-to-date information covering the entire scope of Genitourinary Radiology. A single source of fundamental principles, differentials, and imaging modalities are valued by both the radiologist in training as well as the radiologist in practice. Dr. Zagoria has met his goals by creating a usable text for daily practice rather than a reference book often left on the shelf.
Audience:This book, as is true of the entire series, is primarily written for students and residents. It is perfectly targeted for this audience and is not meant to be an exhaustive review of the entire specialty of GU radiology. However, it is also written with the goal of use in daily practice and is therefore a reference for all radiologists. Dr. Zagoria is a leader in the field and clearly understands the goals of The Requisites series. Minutia is omitted while maintaining fundamentals of the specialty.
Features:This book contains the expected range of kidney, ureter, and bladder imaging and pathology. It includes adrenals and retroperitoneum and concisely details male and female genital tracts. These are subjects not often covered in such detail in a reference book. Additionally, Dr. Zagoria has included a new section highlighting interventional procedures in GUradiology making this latest edition a more complete reference. Updated and new images, tables, and diagrams contribute to accessibility of information.
Assessment:I believe this second edition is significantly improved from the first offering of this text. In terms of learning the specialty, this book offers a useful approach from beginning to end in a format that is very accessible for self study. Other books such as Dunnick et al, Textbook of Uroradiology, 3rd edition, 2001 has been considered more of the standard text for students and residents in radiology. However, this new edition by Dr. Zagoria is my new go-to book when I need a reference during daily work.
