      "Cagney by Cagney" is a Dandy!!!by pierre-orourke

May 24, 2009: Black & white TV, I was a little kid....and whenever "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "Man of a Thousand Faces," or "Mister Roberts" aired.........I was right there. Sure I liked "The Public Enemy" and others but they didn't click with me and maybe from reading "Cagney by Cagney," I now understand why.

This is one of the first autobiographies where I swore I could hear Mr. Cagney's voice reading to me. It comes across so clear that he sat in his farmhouse in Martha's Vineyard with no help. And get this.....a celebrity who tells their life in less than 200 pages.

Much like Buddy Ebsen's autobiography, this gives a person a true sense of what celebrities not only had = but what they had to deal with in that Golden Era. Mr. Cagney does not brag or boast, just tells it like it is.

He also tells of the friends and family of which he was blessed in a manner different and more enlightening than anyone I know of.

If I had a wish it would be to have met the man. Or to have been able to move into his beloved farm before it was parted out and sold. Those chances gone - my wish is for Michael J. Fox to continue in his physical healing so he can star in The Jimmy Cagney Story.
