      Synopsis

This dictionary is fun to use. On each page, you will see drawings with the Italian an English words that describe them underneath. These drawings are usually part of a large, colorful scene. See if you can find all the words in the big scene and then try to remember how to say each one in Italian. You will enjoy looking at the pictures more and more as you learn more Italian.

      Annotation

Pictures labeled in English and Italian are grouped in such familiar categories as "Our House," "The Four Seasons," "In the City," "In the Ocean," and "Colors." Includes bilingual indexes with pronunciation guide.

      Children's Literature

The words in this picture dictionary are grouped by topic. Thirty-two scenes are depicted, with the Italian words and translations provided for each item in a scene. This book, which is part of the "Let's Learn ... Picture Dictionary" series, is a solid supplement to textbooks in early language classes. It helps children to visualize the context in which certain words are used and to reinforce Italian vocabulary. My only criticism is with the book design. Some of the scenes are quite congested and may overwhelm beginning language students. An Italian-English glossary and index with over 1,550 words is provided at the end of the book.

March 11, 2006: Favoloso- questo libro lo uso sia con i miei figli (che parlano sia inglese che italiano)che con i miei studenti. Fantastic- I use this book both with my own kids (who speak Italian & English) and with my students. E' bello, ben organizzato ed e' uno spasso da usare con i bambini. It's beautiful, well organized and easy-going to use with kids...ciao a tutti e buona lettura!!!

April 26, 2005: I have selected several Italian picture dictionary's from the library so I can teach my children to speak Italian and this is by far the best. Not only does it have all of the words, it also has a pronunciatian key and a guide to rules on pronunciation. Instead of having numbers from 1 to 10 like the other 2 books I borrowed it had numbers from 1 to 100 and then went over places like 1st, 2nd, 3rd all the way to 10th. There were so many great things to learn that I am buying the book form Barnes and Noble today. The main thing I like about it is that unlike other books where you are reading words and hoping you are saying them correctly, in this book you know because it tells you. I have learned so much myself from this book that we plan to use it as a guide this summer while in Rome!
