    Synopsis

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is now being offered as an internet-based test, or iBT, and the new edition of Barron's TOEFL manual and accompanying software have been completely revised and updated to reflect the new format. The manual presents seven full-length model TOEFL iBT tests with explanations or examples for all questions, including sample essays and speaking responses. The author also offers general orientation to the new TOEFL iBT, as well as a review of academic skills, which include note taking, paraphrasing, summarizing, and synthesizing. There is also a review of language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The optional CD-ROM presents seven on-screen TOEFL iBT exams that simulate actual test conditions and provide automatic scoring.

May 25, 2008: Though the book is based on teaching the format of TOEFL iBT and not English language but It is successfull to do so .The 'academic skills' part is really comprehensive and usefull. The 'test review' which consist of TOEFL sections introduction is concoise & helpful enough to get you acquainted to the layout of the exam with some advices. It contains 5 tests which is enough to make you an iBT professional. Answer keys are added and are perfect. The glossary of capmus vacubulary at the end of the book is absolutely helpful while you are listening to a conversation which involves campus matters during listening section.

June 30, 2007: I tutor English as a second language, and I guided two of my students through this book in preparation for the TOEFL exam. Both students , who are young teenagers, have amazed me with high scores, and they report that the practice tests on this CD-ROM are very similar to the ones on the TOEFL exam. This book really helps students develop the skills they need. My students learned note-taking skills, summarizing, paraphrasing, and they were able to take 7 full length practice tests. The listening sections include lecturers who have a variety of accents, so it was very similar to the actual TOEFL exam.
