    Synopsis

This work condemns East Indian racism towards Africans in Guyana, comparing and contrasting it to the racism of earlier colonial regimes. Much of the analysis is limited to the politics of race as it plays out in the party contestations for government control. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

March 04, 2007: This author has displayed his sheer lack of knowledge not only about Hinduism but of South Asians, Indians, in general. First, Hinduism does not preach intolerance. If some aspects of the religion does practice it then it makes Hinduism guilty of what every other religion is guilty of so there's no need to single out Hindus. Second, the author seems to completely ignore the fact that Indians in Guyana, Trindidad and Suriname do not adhere to the caste system. It is completely idiotic. Because of the nature of Indian diaspora to the New World, it eliminated any vestiges of caste. Third, there is a sizeable portion of Indian Guyanese who are Muslims and some are Christian thus, the author's premise of Hinduism as the sole reason for the nation's racial problems is obviously faulty--at best. You've got to wonder if just about anyone is allowed to write drivel and pass it off as knowledge.

February 23, 2006: When one speaks of racism and oppression in today's society, one must fairly depict the issues on both sides. Currently in Guyana, the indians are the one being oppressed and are permiated with fear. The Minority Groups are the most previledged in guyana. They are the ones that are constituting most of the violence. Don't blame it on people's culture, by saying hinduism preaches racism due to caste system. Guyanese (hindus) don't use the caste system in guyana. The author is one sided and really mis-informed. Now there will be election, thats the time the minority will use intimidation on the population to scare them from excersing their rights to vote. (fear and intimadation tatics) Have you ever dealth with hindu's, they are the most loving and god fearing people you will ever meet.
